Getting here and travelling around

Starting from Cresswell

Arriving by train, you have two options.

Get off the train at Newcastle Central Station. Walk (20 minutes) or take the Metro to Newcastle’s Haymarket Bus Station and catch the Arriva X20/20 direct to Ellington. Cresswell is a 20 minute walk from here or there is accommodation in Ellington.

Get off the train at Morpeth Railway Station and take a taxi from there to Cresswell (£15-£20)

Arriving by Ferry

Ferries from Ijmuiden (Amsterdam) arrive at the International Passenger Terminal at North Shields. Buses are available to transfer you to Newcastle and follow the above instructions from there.

Arriving by car.

If you are Parking is limited in Cresswell village, we wouldn’t recommend leaving your car for an extended period in the beach car park. If you are staying overnight, the Plough Inn at nearby Ellington allows walkers to leave their cars in the car park for the duration of their walk. There is no accommodation in Cresswell.

Arriving by Air

Newcastle International Airport is the nearest Airport to Cresswell. A rapid-rail link, the Metro, links the airport with Newcastle city centre. Get off the Metro at Haymarket and follow the instructions above.

Starting from Berwick-upon-Tweed

Berwick is served by Virgin East Coast and Crosscountry trains from all parts of the country.

Parking in Berwick-upon-Tweed. You can leave your car in any of the long stay car parks in the town for the duration of your stay.  It may be worthwhile letting parking services at Northumberland County Council know if you are leaving your car for a few days by emailing parkingservices@northumberland.gov.uk
